Here's some of the stuff I want to do for Firepower. Suggestions
and discussion are encouraged. Code is welcome, but check with me
first to make sure I don't have plans on how to do whatever it is your
interested in. Also I wish to retain the rights to do whatever I
please with anything that becomes a part of Firepower, so nothing that
would prevent me from having total control over distribution and
copyright will be accepted. The only exception is the libXsprite
library, which may be modified and used freely by anyone. If you have
something to add but aren't sure if my terms are acceptable, drop me an
email and we'll talk about it.
Some of this stuff is from Bolo, some is my own. Some are my own
ideas that happen to be in Bolo too. I've never played Bolo, just
read the FAQ.
(*) marks things I've done now
o (*)Mines (hidden - become visible one square away)
o Bases - bolo apparently has you run them over to capture (after
first damaging them with shells. I want to have soliders instead)
Note that base games and capture the flag games will be entirely
separate. Base games will be something like netrek - take over
all the bases to win.
o Uhh, soldiers - SPLAT! SPLAT! SPLAT! (<-- see original Firepower)
o More terrain types - Pixmaps gladly accepted! (any format is fine)
o Pillboxes - start out neutral(shoot at everyone)? Moveable (by
tank) or stationary? On second thought, start out however the
person making the map wants them to.
o (*)Armor/damage affects max warp^H^H^H^Hspeed :) (done, values may need
tweaking)
o (*)Limited ammo, reload at bases only
o (*)limited fuel - either blow up when you run out or be reduced to
speed 1.
o fuel/ammo depots - blow one up and get refueled.
o For capture the flag games, perhaps allow players with x kills to
carry their own team's flags (at the cost of those kills? and for a
limited distance?)
o building roads (by moving trees around)
o Helicopters?? (One per team at a time, rebuild time, can't carry
flags/trees/anything, can't take over bases. IE Like a netrek SB
on speed.) [distant future I imagine]
o (*)improved messaging - obviously need team messages at least.
Probably a full scale netrek type system eventually.
o map editor - not hard, but the maps are (for now?) just plain ascii,
easy to make in any text editor.
o Bolo type little green men? Doesn't appeal to me, but maybe I'll
change my mind. I'd rather have each player have just their tank
I think.
o general user-friendliness in the client - config file, (*)menus, etc.
o Save stats between sessions, passwords
o Windoze client. ick. ick. ick. ick. [when hell drops to room temperature]
